Qikify vs Shopify Checkout Blocks: which one fits your Shopify plan
Qikify vs Shopify Checkout Blocks comes down to your Shopify plan before it comes down to features. Checkout Blocks is free and owned by Shopify, and its content blocks only reach the checkout page on Shopify Plus. This comparison splits both apps by plan, using their App Store listings and the Shopify Help Center, then says when the free app is all you need. Checkout Blocks is the better fit for simple customization at no cost. Qikify is built for complex requirements, especially on larger stores, with hands-on support.
Key takeaways
- Shopify didn't build Checkout Blocks. It bought the app in June 2024 and made it free.
- Below Shopify Plus: Checkout Blocks adds content to the Thank you and Order status pages. Our app, Qikify Checkout Customizer, changes payment and delivery methods and runs checkout validation on its Free plan.
- On Shopify Plus: Shopify limits checkout-page content to Plus in both apps. Checkout Premium serves nearly every Checkout Blocks feature and adds product offers, reports and an AI audit, so it's stronger on features, price aside.
- How to pick: Checkout Blocks for simple customization at no cost, when your team doesn't need close support. Qikify for complex requirements and larger stores that want hands-on support, or for rules without Plus.
1. What Shopify Checkout Blocks does on each Shopify plan
Shopify Checkout Blocks is a free Shopify app that customizes checkout without code. On the Basic plan or higher, it places content blocks on the Thank you and Order status pages only. The Shopify Help Center is direct about the rest: placement on checkout pages requires Shopify Plus.
The app didn't start at Shopify. Founder and solo developer Gil Greenberg launched it on the Shopify App Store in September 2022, and Shopify acquired it in June 2024 for an undisclosed amount. The starter plan had cost $99 per month, and the deal made it free for Plus merchants.
1.1. Below Shopify Plus: content after payment
Merchants below Plus get two block types, static content and dynamic content. Both go on the Thank you and Order status pages, which suits delivery notes, support details and post-order messages. Nothing appears before the buyer pays, so these blocks can't change what happens on the checkout page itself.
1.2. On Shopify Plus: the full checkout
Shopify Plus opens the rest of the app. Blocks can sit on the checkout page, built on Checkout Extensibility. The block list adds custom fields, line item content, line item editing and shipping and payment icons.
Plus also adds two jobs that matter for this comparison. One is to hide, rename and reorder delivery and payment methods. The other is custom order and shipping discounts, with more detailed rules than Shopify's default discount builder.
Many blocks also take display rules, so a dynamic content block or custom field shows only when its rules pass. You choose whether all rules or any one rule must be met, and rules can read metafields you define.

The app also sets order value limits, a minimum and maximum subtotal that blocks checkout outside the range, for all customers or only B2B companies. The listing and the Help Center describe plan access for this differently, so confirm it in your own admin.

2. What Qikify Checkout Customizer does on each Shopify plan
We built Qikify Checkout Customizer to handle checkout rules and checkout-page content in one app. The Free plan installs on every Shopify plan, while Checkout Premium adds custom fields, product offers and Checkout Digest for Shopify Plus stores. Shopify sets the same checkout-page limit here as it does for Checkout Blocks.
2.1. Free plan, any Shopify plan
The Free plan reorders, hides and renames payment methods, customizes delivery methods and adds checkout validation rules. It includes live chat support, and custom branding stays limited to Plus stores. Below Plus, you get the rules but not the checkout-page content, because Shopify keeps those extensions on Plus.
These rules run as Shopify Functions on Shopify's infrastructure, so your checkout logic doesn't depend on a Qikify server.

2.2. Checkout Premium on Shopify Plus
Checkout Premium opens all checkout extensions: custom fields, product offers and upsells, custom banners, an editable cart summary, payment icons and review-app integrations. Setup is included, and testing on sandbox and development stores is free. Checkout Digest sends a recurring performance summary to Slack, email or Discord. A Custom plan through sales covers enterprise and multi-store needs.
Elements can use display conditions from eight groups: Product, Cart, Customer, Shipping, Payment, Discount, Market and UTM. The app also carries an AI checkout audit with performance scoring. Checkout MCP, on the Free plan, connects it to tools such as Claude and Cursor.

3. Qikify vs Shopify Checkout Blocks, side by side
The choice in Qikify vs Shopify Checkout Blocks starts with price. Checkout Blocks costs $0, and Qikify Checkout Customizer costs $0 on its Free plan or $99 per month on Checkout Premium. On the Shopify App Store in October 2026, Checkout Blocks rated 4.1 from 221 reviews and Qikify rated 4.9 from 73 reviews.
3.1. Feature table, checked October 2026
How to read the table: "Plus store" means your store is on Shopify's Plus plan, which is a requirement from Shopify. Checkout Premium is Qikify's own paid app plan, so "Plus store + Checkout Premium" needs both. "Not listed" means the feature does not appear on that app's listing.

As a checkout blocks app, Shopify's product has no paid tier at all, and that is a real advantage. Qikify leads in two places: payment and delivery changes below Plus, where Checkout Blocks requires an upgrade, and feature range on Plus.
3.2. Feature for feature on Shopify Plus
Leave pricing aside and Checkout Premium is the stronger app on Shopify Plus. It serves content blocks, custom fields, line item editing, payment icons, payment and delivery rules and order value limits, then adds product offers, Checkout Digest and the AI audit.
The main gap is custom shipping discounts. Checkout Blocks has a direct rule, while Qikify offers a free shipping goal on its Reward bar.
Feature count isn't the whole choice, though. Checkout Blocks is strongest when the job is simple and the team can run it alone. Qikify earns its price when requirements get complex and you want people helping with setup.
3.3. What each one costs in practice
Checkout Blocks costs nothing on any plan, but most of its value sits behind the Shopify Plus fee. If you're weighing that upgrade, start with what Shopify Plus adds beyond checkout.
Qikify's Free plan costs $0 on every plan. Checkout Premium costs $99 per month or $950.40 per year, with a 14-day free trial. Stores that convert to Shopify Plus through a Qikify referral get Premium at $0 for life, which removes the app cost from that decision.
On Plus, the honest comparison is $0 against $99 per month. That gap only pays off if you'll use what Checkout Blocks lacks, such as product offers or reports.
Same platform limit, different split below Plus. Checked October 2026.
4. When Checkout Blocks is the right call
Shopify Checkout Blocks is the right call when your customization is simple and your team doesn't need close support. On the Basic plan, it's a free way to add messages to the Thank you and Order status pages. On Shopify Plus, it covers blocks, custom fields and payment rules without a third-party bill. Starting with it costs nothing but setup time.
It fits three kinds of store particularly well:
- Stores below Plus with simple post-order needs. A delivery note or support message on the Order status page doesn't need anything else.
- Plus stores with simple display blocks. Static content, shipping and payment icons and line item content are all in the free app, and some Liquid works inside block content.
- Plus stores running custom order or shipping discounts. The free app already goes beyond Shopify's default discount builder here.
There's also less to install than there used to be. In June 2026, Shopify moved address format validation into checkout rules for all merchants, so a basic address format check no longer needs either app.
Since October 2026, Sidekick can also explain how to plan blocks and functions in the Checkout Blocks app. If this describes your store, stay with the free app and spend the $99 elsewhere.
5. When Qikify Checkout Customizer is the better fit
Qikify Checkout Customizer is the Checkout Blocks alternative for complex checkout requirements, especially on larger Shopify Plus stores that want hands-on support. It also serves stores below Plus, because Checkout Blocks puts payment and delivery rules behind Plus while our Free plan runs them on Basic and up.
You're not on Plus and need payment or delivery rules. Hiding a payment method for certain orders needs Plus in Checkout Blocks. Our Free plan covers it, along with checkout validation that stops orders before they go through.
Your store has complex requirements. These are the Qikify customers whose checkout needed more than simple blocks:
- A global cosmetics brand on Shopify Plus runs a gift with purchase on orders of ¥13,000 or more that include a product from a target collection. Shopify's standard Discount feature couldn't handle that combination alone. Checkout Blocks custom discounts also go past the default builder, so test your own rule in both.
- En Gold sells heavy handcrafted furniture. Its custom fields collect details such as flights of stairs, and only relevant fields and banners appear for each order. The team reports shipping charges now come very close to its courier costs.
- KANADEMONO, a Japanese furniture brand with a complex catalog, reports 400+ additional conversions from targeted cross-sell offers.
- Asian Portal ships fishing gear to 132 countries. It explains shipping costs at checkout, and reports a 2-3% increase in conversion rate and a 10-13% increase in AOV.

You want hands-on support. Checkout Premium includes setup, and the Free plan includes live chat. En Gold credits our team with "providing a bespoke solution", and KANADEMONO's setup included help configuring product-specific rules. Checkout Blocks support comes from Shopify and is well reviewed, so this matters most when your setup needs someone working through it with you.
You want offers and reporting at checkout. The Checkout Blocks listing doesn't include product offers or recurring reports. Checkout Premium has product offers, plus Checkout Digest summaries in Slack, email or Discord. The app also scores your checkout with an AI audit, which isn't on the Checkout Blocks listing either.
Your team works in Japanese. The Checkout Blocks listing is English only, and Qikify has a Japanese listing.

6. Set up your first checkout rule in Qikify Checkout Customizer
Setting up Qikify Checkout Customizer starts on the Shopify App Store and doesn't require Shopify Plus for the first rule. Payment, delivery and validation rules run on the Free plan, so you can build one against a real order scenario, then decide whether Checkout Premium is worth a 14-day trial.
- Install the app. Add Qikify Checkout Customizer from the Shopify App Store and start on the Free plan.
- Pick one job. Choose a payment method to hide, rename or reorder, a delivery method to customize, or a validation rule.
- Set when it applies. Use conditions that match the scenario, such as cart contents, customer tag or shipping country.
- Test it. Run a test checkout and confirm the rule fires before you rely on it.
Every feature works on both one-page and three-page checkout.
On Shopify Plus with Checkout Premium, you can add blocks and custom fields through Shopify's checkout editor. UTM display conditions also need the Qikify Checkout app embed turned on in your theme. If you'd rather work from an AI assistant, Checkout MCP connects the app to Claude, Cursor and similar tools.

7. How to choose: start from your Shopify plan, then the job
Settling Qikify vs Shopify Checkout Blocks takes two questions: are you on Shopify Plus, and what job do you need done? Below Plus, Checkout Blocks handles post-purchase content and Qikify Checkout Customizer handles payment and delivery rules. On Plus, simple customization points to Checkout Blocks, while complex requirements and hands-on support point to Checkout Premium.
| The job | Not on Shopify Plus | On Shopify Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Simple customization, no close support needed | Checkout Blocks | Checkout Blocks |
| Complex requirements, hands-on setup | Needs Plus | Qikify Checkout Premium |
| Thank you and Order status content | Checkout Blocks | Either; Checkout Blocks is free |
| Payment and delivery rules | Qikify Free plan | Either, both free |
| Blocks and custom fields on the checkout page | Needs Plus | Either; Checkout Blocks is free |
| Product offers at checkout | Needs Plus | Qikify Checkout Premium |
| Recurring checkout reports | Needs Plus | Qikify Checkout Premium |
Running custom order or shipping discounts on Plus points to Checkout Blocks as well. Whichever way this goes, build one real campaign rule in the app before you commit. It'll tell you more than any table, ours included.

FAQ
Did Shopify build Checkout Blocks?
No. Founder and solo developer Gil Greenberg launched it in September 2022, and Shopify acquired it in June 2024. Shopify now lists itself as the developer on the App Store.
Is Shopify Checkout Blocks free?
Yes. The Shopify App Store lists it as free with one tier, as of October 2026. The cost to think about is Shopify Plus, which most of its features require.
Why won't Checkout Blocks let me add a block to my checkout page?
Shopify Help Center limits checkout-page placement to Shopify Plus. Below Plus, static and dynamic content blocks stay on two pages after payment, Thank you and Order status.
What happens to my payment and delivery customizations if I uninstall Checkout Blocks?
Shopify Help Center says they are automatically deactivated and then removed from your store. Note what you've set up before uninstalling Checkout Blocks.
Does Checkout Blocks support upsells?
The Checkout Blocks listing and Help Center pages we checked don't list product offers or upsells. Its line item edit block handles buyer changes such as variant or quantity.
Is there a limit on how many blocks Checkout Blocks can show?
Shopify Help Center says Checkout Blocks supports up to 30 active blocks per block type, and each checkout page holds up to 10 block placeholders.
Does Qikify Checkout Customizer work with Shopify POS?
Partly. Custom Fields and Product Offers work on Shopify POS. Validation rules, custom payment methods and delivery rules don't, because Shopify Functions don't support those POS cases yet.
